MUSIC THAT MAKES A DIFFERENCE

Dan is available for concerts, residences and workshops on a variety of themes, including song writing, recycling, environmental studies, songs of the sea, and Hudson River history.

"Dan and I have been singing up and down the river for many years, and he s one of the best I know at getting people to sing along. he is also arguably one of the best songwriters in the Hudson Valley" - Pete Seeger

Dan uses music to open the hearts and minds of his listeners. His performances amuse, entertain, and seek to inform and inspire others to invest themselves in healing the Earth.

"Dear Mr. Einbender, I really enjoyed your presentation! It wasn't just another boring lecture to me. After going through a whole day of speeches and not participating, you were a relief and also a great way to end my day. To this day I still sing the songs you shared with us, please come again soon!" - R>G> 8th Grader, Scarsdale Jr. High School He got us involved in the Sloop Clearwater project in 1980, working as an environmental educator, musical director and composer for "Arm of the Sea" Puppet Theater, and as a mainstay of the Hudson River Sloop Singers.

"Dan's concern for the earth and it's people can be heard loud and clear in the songs that he sings. His ability to relate to students of many ages and learning abilities is one of his great strengths as an educator" Meg Clarke-Goldhammer, Elementary Science Facilitator, Kensington City School District

He is a Certified Music Therapist, whose many years of playing in special schools, hospitals, prisons and other institutions have given his performances an unusual depth and sensitivity.

"My specialty is assemblies focusing on environmental themes, but with a good mix of silly songs and sing-alongs. My programs on "Hudson River History" and "Songs of the Sea" are more performance oriented, though all are highly interactive. I [refer to do two or three smaller age specific assemblies in a day rather than one big one, as I would do a much different program for first graders than for fourth graders. A program for older kinds might have a lot more time allotted for discussions and concerns. I like to begin a song writing residency with a general assembly then work with individual classes or smaller groups chosen for their interest in poetry, music or the environment. I love working with ecology clubs and an assembly is a great way to kick off a school's new recycling program.

During the opening assembly, I'll introduce the purpose of our collaborations: to produce a whole batch of new songs for the kids to perform for each other at a closing assembly, and begin work on a school songbook. (Working with art teachers can produce spectacular results!) I also love writing songs about local history, and incorporating a bit of research time in the school library adds a lot to the process.

I hope my programs entertain and educate and give kids a sense of their own power to affect positive change in the world whether through writing songs or letters, or picking up trash in the streets.
